UGA Mascot Uga VIII Passed Away 01/04/10

University of Georgia's mascot Uga VIII passed away Friday February 4, 2011.

 Shortly after being crowned the official mascot on the 16th of October he took ill missing the Liberty Bowl and was diagnosed last month with lymphoma.

Russ had served as interim mascot last year after Uga VII died suddenly and will assume the duty once again.

Uga VIII was quietly interred Saturday  in a private ceremony attended by members of the Seiler family of Savannah, UGA President Michael Adams, football coach Mark Richt, athletic director Greg McGarity and several other UGA Athletic Association staff members.

 The Sanford Stadium mausoleum that is the final resting place for the bulldog mascots.

 At present there has been no announcement if the Siler family will have a successor ready any time soon.  In the meantime Russ will continue to stand in.

Update:


As of December 6, 2011 Russ continues to serve but the Siler family say they have a promising pup coming along that may be ready for Fall season 2012.
